After finishing a hand-stitched art quilt several years ago, I vowed that there would be no more hand stitching.  The reason – that piece was medium-sized and took me about 3 years to finish!  I knew there had to be a better way.  Now, years later, the pain forgotten, I’m working on a piece that – for reasons I cannot fathom – called out for hand stitching!  It still takes me forever, but it’s only small sections, and I seem to be more relaxed about it.  Here’s a detail shot:

More to come when it’s done which hopefully, will be much less than 3 years!   It better be less than 3 years because it’s promised for an exhibit with Fiber Artists Coalition next January.

  1. Hand stitching really gives such a wonderful soft feel to a piece and this piece definately needed that with the subtle changes in leaf colors that you created.
    Good luck.

  2. Robin, Thanks for your feedback.

  3. I love it Shelley. The look and feel of the hand. Many of us are searching for that these days. More personal and authentic.

  4. Hand stitching is so soothing. And it adds to the beauty of the work. Keep it up!
