HAND STITCHING

posted by SHELLEY BRUCAR

After finishing a hand-stitched art quilt several years ago, I vowed that there would be no more hand stitching.  The reason – that piece was medium-sized and took me about 3 years to finish!  I knew there had to be a better way.  Now, years later, the pain forgotten, I’m working on a piece that – for reasons I cannot fathom – called out for hand stitching!  It still takes me forever, but it’s only small sections, and I seem to be more relaxed about it.  Here’s a detail shot:

More to come when it’s done which hopefully, will be much less than 3 years!   It better be less than 3 years because it’s promised for an exhibit with Fiber Artists Coalition next January.

MY NEWEST DISCOVERY

Posted by SHELLEY BRUCAR

This week, I discovered an artist whose work really drew me in.  His name is Adam Thomas, and his paintings absolutely glow.  It’s not just that they are nature-based, which always gets my attention; it’s also the colors and the wonderful movement.  You can go to his website to see, or view Adam’s work live; he has an exhibit going on right now at the Edge Gallery, 6318 Clark Street, Chicago.  This exhibit goes through Wednesday, July 28.  If you miss it, his website shows another exhibit, starting September 16 and running for two months, at Uncommon Ground, 1214 West Grace Street, Chicago.  I will definitely get to that one.
