After the first day of a workshop with Mary Hettmansperger, those of us who were not already adding other “objects” to our fiber art are now moving in that direction.  Mary creates unique and beautiful jewelry and mixed media art quilts.  She is a patient and giving teacher and has a wonderful sense of humor, making class a pleasure.  We are working with metals, which means we get to play with hammers and fire – so much fun!   And Mary brought tons of materials for us to use; we really enjoyed watching her empty her purse and pockets in search of a demo bracelet.

Here is Mary demonstrating how to get balls on the end of a wire and how to get that beautiful reddish brown color on copper…

and, oh yes, always use a pliers when you’re firing…

Here are some beautiful oak leaves by the talented Tracy McCabe Stewart.

And another piece of art by Alice Jenks.

I added some copper leaf shapes to a piece that I thought was finished before yesterday, but it apparently was not!

More to come after workshop day 2…

  1. Love the metal on that new piece, Shelley. As usual, I had a great time in the workshop with you. I’ll get some pictures up today-I hope. Thanks for the link!-Tracy
